“The core theme of the exhibitions this year is built around the portraits from the Bank’s art collection that we are happy to share with the general public. This year, we have already hosted 4 exhibitions displaying 8 portraits to the Bank’s friends and customers. The two new exhibitions continued the series and present 3 excellent works by Alexandra Koltsova-Bychkova primarily known as a decorator and applied artist,” says Laura Andronova, Head of Identity and Communications Unit of UniCredit Bank.

Alexandra Grigoryevna Koltsova-Bychkova was an outstanding portrait painter. At different times, she painted her husband, sculptor S.V. Koltsov, and her relatives: her sister Yu.G. Bychkova, her nieces, and her mother I.A. Bychkova. She made multiple pencil drawings of the people she knew and of virtual strangers, e.g. employees of the medical centre to which she was assigned and participants of Nikitinskiye Subbotniki of the 1960s. Besides, Alexandra Koltsova-Bychkova painted several self-portraits using a variety of painting techniques. The painter’s observation skills are particularly manifest in her portraits. She managed to depict the individual traits, as well as the time when the work was created. In certain works, the painter imbued her characters with certain grotesque features, which was particularly typical for the early (pre-war) period of her career.2019.
